After spending its opening weeks exclusively in cinemas, Minions & Monsters is now available to watch at home.
The latest chapter in Illumination’s hugely successful animated franchise arrives on digital platforms on Tuesday, August 11. Families can now rent or purchase the movie without waiting for its eventual subscription-streaming debut, although watching immediately comes at a premium price.
That leaves viewers with a practical decision: pay for the digital release now or wait until the movie reaches a subscription service.
Where can you watch Minions & Monsters at home?
Minions & Monsters is available to buy or rent through participating digital stores, including:

- Apple TV
- Fandango at Home
- Movies Anywhere-compatible retailers
- Other regional video-on-demand platforms
Digital availability and pricing can differ by country. Viewers outside the United States should search for the title directly inside their preferred store before purchasing.
Buying the movie digitally does not require an Amazon Prime subscription. Prime Video also operates as a store, allowing customers to rent or purchase individual films separately from its subscription catalogue.
The official Universal Pictures page now lists the movie as available to watch digitally at home.
How much does the digital release cost?
At launch, the listed US price on Amazon is approximately:

Prices can change between stores and may fall after the premium digital-release period.
A rental normally gives the customer a limited period to start the movie, followed by roughly 48 hours to finish it after playback begins. Buyers retain access through the retailer’s digital library, subject to that platform’s terms.
The difference between renting and buying is currently small. A family likely to replay the movie may receive better value from purchasing it. Anyone expecting to watch only once should consider whether a premium rental is worth almost as much as ownership.
There is also a digital three-film collection containing the Minions movies, but viewers should compare the bundle price with any films they already own before purchasing.
What is Minions & Monsters about?
The movie takes the Minions into the world of early Hollywood, where their attempt to become movie stars creates considerably more trouble than expected.
After finding success in the film industry, the Minions lose everything and accidentally unleash monsters into the world. They must then work together to contain the chaos they caused and prevent the situation from becoming a global disaster.
The premise combines two forms of exaggerated spectacle that naturally suit these characters: old-fashioned monster movies and the Minions’ talent for turning simple plans into enormous accidents.
Pierre Coffin directs and once again provides the familiar Minion voices. The wider voice cast includes Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Trey Parker, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr.
The movie runs for approximately one hour and 32 minutes, making it short enough for a family movie night without demanding an entire evening.
Is it available on Netflix, Peacock or Disney+?
The most important distinction is that digital availability does not mean the film has joined a subscription-streaming service.
At the time of publication, Minions & Monsters is available through paid digital rental or purchase. It is not included with a standard Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video subscription.
Peacock
Because Universal distributes the film, Peacock is its expected first subscription-streaming destination in the United States.
