Halloween is approaching, and the flock at Mossy Bottom Farm has prepared a pumpkin patch for the occasion.
Then the Farmer destroys it.
The damage may have been accidental, but Shaun is not prepared to let Halloween disappear without a fight. He decides to repair the situation through science. Unfortunately, Shaun’s solutions have a habit of creating problems much larger than the ones he started with.
His experiment quickly moves beyond pumpkins. The Farmer vanishes, a mysterious beast begins roaming the woods around Mossingham and the local community is left facing something it does not understand.
Shaun wanted to save a celebration. He may now have to save the entire farm.
Shaun becomes a mad scientist
The “mad scientist” idea fits Shaun perfectly because his intelligence and impatience often work together.
He understands enough to build a solution but rarely pauses to consider every possible consequence. Once his experiment begins behaving unexpectedly, there is no sensible adult available to take control.
Bitzer may attempt to restore order, but Shaun and the flock must investigate the Farmer’s disappearance themselves. That means leaving the familiar safety of the farm and entering woods where something large is moving out of sight.
The Halloween setting allows the film to play with classic horror images without abandoning its family audience. Shadows, strange noises and frightened villagers can create suspense, while Shaun’s resourcefulness keeps the danger playful.
The mystery of the beast
The official synopsis does not identify the creature wandering through Mossingham.
That mystery gives the story a clear shape. Shaun must determine whether the beast is responsible for the Farmer’s disappearance, whether his experiment helped create the problem and how the flock can bring everyone home safely.

The appeal of Shaun the Sheep comes from turning simple farm problems into elaborate adventures.
A ruined pumpkin patch is a small beginning. Shaun’s response transforms it into an experiment, a disappearance and a monster hunt. The escalation feels ridiculous, but every new problem grows from the one before it.
Aardman’s expressive animation also allows the characters to communicate through movement, timing and reaction. Children can follow the physical comedy, while older viewers notice the references and carefully constructed visual jokes.
This makes the story accessible without requiring a complicated explanation of earlier Shaun the Sheep adventures.
