In most survival stories, running is the sensible response. In Don’t Move, running tells the predator exactly where to find its next meal.
The 2026 horror film begins with an annual church camping trip. What should be a peaceful retreat becomes a fight for survival after the group wanders into an unfamiliar section of a remote forest and members begin disappearing.
At first, the campers suspect that the danger may be human. They are wrong.
A retreat becomes a trap
Megan Forrester, played by Lyndsy Fonseca, joins the camping trip while recovering from a recent personal tragedy. The excursion should give her time away from the pain she has been carrying.
Instead, Megan is forced into the centre of another crisis.
The group mistakenly hikes into an unknown area, and people soon vanish one by one. With no clear explanation, fear turns the survivors against one another. Suspicion settles on Ricky, played by rapper and actor Russ, whose reputation as the group’s troublemaker makes him an easy person to blame.
The situation changes when the campers venture farther into the forest and discover that something far larger is hunting them: a giant spider-like predator.
Why Ricky becomes the first suspect
Ricky does not inspire confidence, and the disappearances appear to confirm what the others already think about him. That makes him dangerous even before the real creature is identified.
The story uses this mistrust to give Megan a difficult choice. She cannot lead the survivors out alone, but accepting Ricky’s help means depending on someone the group believes may be responsible for its losses.
Once the creature is revealed, the question is no longer whether Ricky looks guilty. Megan must decide whether her judgment has been shaped by evidence or by the panic surrounding her.
Their uneasy partnership gives the film a human conflict beneath the monster attacks. Survival requires cooperation, but terror makes cooperation almost impossible.
The web-covered forest
The creature does not merely chase its victims through the trees. Its webs turn the forest into an alarm system.
A careless footstep can disturb a strand and reveal someone’s position. A person attempting to escape may alert the predator before reaching safety. The same environment that could hide the survivors also works against them.
That is where the title earns its meaning. “Don’t move” is not a warning that can be followed forever. Remaining still may prevent immediate detection, but nobody can escape a forest without eventually taking a step.
The campers therefore face an awful calculation: when is movement worth the risk?
That simple rule gives the creature feature a strong suspense mechanism. The characters cannot rely entirely on speed or physical strength. They must control their fear, observe the web system and decide exactly when to act.
Megan’s real challenge
Megan enters the forest while still processing an earlier tragedy. The new danger forces her to take responsibility for people who are frightened, divided and increasingly difficult to control.
Her task is not only to locate a route out. She must keep the surviving campers from destroying their chances through panic and mistrust.
Lyndsy Fonseca’s performance will be important because Megan must communicate fear without losing the authority the story gives her. If she appears too fearless, the creature loses some of its threat. If she becomes completely overwhelmed, it becomes difficult to believe the others would follow her.
Is Don’t Move based on a book?
Yes. The film is adapted from the horror novel written by James “Murr” Murray of Impractical Jokers and Darren Wearmouth.
Murray, Wearmouth and director Maclain Nelson wrote the screenplay. Murray also produced the film alongside David M. Wulf and Ethan Berman.
The cast includes Lyndsy Fonseca, Russ, Tom Cavanagh, Hunter King, Joseph Lee Anderson and Rob Riggle, with appearances by T-Pain, Brian Quinn and Matt Biedel.
Do not confuse it with Netflix’s Don’t Move
This film is unrelated to Netflix’s 2024 thriller starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock.
The Netflix movie concerns a woman injected with a paralytic drug. The 2026 film is a creature-horror adaptation about campers trapped inside a forest controlled by a giant arachnid.
Including the year in the headline will help readers distinguish the two movies.

Don’t Move runs for approximately one hour and 34 minutes and carries an R classification. It opens in U.S. cinemas on September 11, 2026, following selected preview screenings.
