2027 GRAMMY Voting Has Begun: What “Submitted” Really Means for an Artist

Coverage note: This article explains the confirmed awards process. It does not announce or predict nominees.

A “For Your Consideration” poster can look like a celebration of an award already secured. The artist’s name is prominent, the category is listed, and the campaign is ready to share. But a submission is only one stage in the journey towards a GRAMMY.

First-round voting for the 2027 GRAMMY Awards opened on 12 October 2026 and continues until 22 October. This stage helps determine which recordings and creators will appear on the nominations list, scheduled for 16 November 2026.

Understanding that sequence makes awards-season announcements much easier to read.

An entry begins when an eligible recording is submitted for consideration by an authorised Recording Academy member or registered media company. The Academy reviews eligibility and places qualifying work in the appropriate category before voting takes place. Being submitted therefore does not guarantee either a place on the final nominees list or an award.

The three terms worth keeping separate are:

TermWhat it establishes
Submitted or enteredThe work has been put forward for consideration, subject to the Academy’s requirements.
NominatedThe work has been selected for the official nominees list through the relevant nominations process.
WinnerThe work has received the award following the final selection process.

“For Your Consideration,” often shortened to FYC, describes a campaign asking eligible voters to consider the work. A campaign poster alone is not evidence of a nomination.

The voting body matters just as much. GRAMMY voting is carried out by the Recording Academy’s Voting Members, including working music creators such as performers, songwriters, producers and engineers. Fans do not cast GRAMMY ballots simply by streaming a song, buying an album or sharing a hashtag.

That does not make fan enthusiasm meaningless. It means support and award selection are different activities. A song can matter deeply to its audience before any committee, ballot or ceremony recognises it.

The confirmed timetable is:

StageDate
First-round voting12–22 October 2026
Nominations announcement16 November 2026
Final-round voting10 December 2026–7 January 2027
Awards ceremony7 February 2027

These dates come from the Recording Academy’s official awards calendar.

The eligibility window also explains why a new release may be absent from this cycle. The Academy lists 31 August 2025 to 28 August 2026 as the release period for eligible work, alongside its other entry requirements. A project arriving later needs to be assessed against the appropriate awards year’s rules.

For readers following Nigerian artists and the wider African music scene, the useful habit is to check the wording before sharing an announcement. Identify the recording, category and stage of the process. When nominations arrive on 16 November, the Academy’s official list will provide the confirmation that a promotional graphic cannot.

An entry can be a meaningful step for an artist. Calling it accurately allows that achievement to stand on its own.
