Spoiler-free preview: official story setup and announced gameplay features only.

Paris is burning, and the Belmont family has work to do.

Set in 1499, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse follows Rose Belmont into a city overrun by monsters. Her father, Trevor, has already earned his place in the family’s history by defeating Dracula. Rose now faces a crisis that will demand more than a famous surname.

Konami places the adventure 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Trevor and Rose enter the threatened city, while a conspiracy draws Rose deeper into the danger surrounding it. The announced setting takes players through Paris and into Dracula’s castle.

That establishes the stakes without explaining the mystery. A city needs saving, an experienced hunter’s daughter must grow into her role, and the player has to guide her through hostile territory.

The game approaches that journey through exploration and 2D action. Rose’s Vampire Killer whip is central to both fighting and movement. Konami’s demonstrations show it being used to traverse environments as well as attack enemies, making positioning part of the attraction.

The equipment system also gives players choices. Weapons fall into seven categories, while relics provide additional effects. An Arcana system links defeated bosses to tarot cards that grant abilities.

The interesting question for players is how comfortably those actions fit together. A movement tool that also works as a weapon can make a room feel different once you learn its possibilities. A ledge may offer a route forward, a better attacking position or a reason to return and investigate.

Evil Empire is developing the game with Konami, with Motion Twin contributing in an advisory role. The Midnight Edition adds extras including costumes, a digital sound and art gallery, and a relic item.

For anyone deciding whether to buy, the most useful starting point is the playable demo. Konami released it on 1 October, allowing players to try the opening stages before launch.

Demo progress can transfer to the full game, provided you keep the save data and use the same platform and account. Konami also says the full version must be updated when transferring that progress.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launches on 15 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam.

Flicklevel’s recommendation before release is straightforward: try the demo to judge the movement, whip controls and exploration for yourself. Those are the things that will shape the hours spent with Rose once the opening mystery gives way to the full adventure.
