Spoiler note: This guide covers the Adventure Mode setup and confirmed game features.
Someone wants ABBA. Someone else wants Chappell Roan. Ubisoft’s latest Just Dance release gives both a place on the same dance floor, with 35 songs spanning the 1970s to the 2020s.
Ubisoft launched the game on 13 October 2026. A free Switch 2 upgrade for owners of the Switch version follows on 10 November.
The central activity is physical: follow the choreography and have your movements tracked as you dance. Up to six people can play together locally. The free Just Dance Controller app can turn a compatible smartphone into the device that records your moves, but you still need the console game. Downloading the app alone does not provide the full Just Dance experience.
The new Adventure Mode gives solo play a story to follow. Lyra is trying to rescue her father, Dr. Gigavolt, and her journey takes her through six worlds inspired by different musical decades. Dancing, small activities and unlockable rewards connect the stages of that journey.
That structure may appeal to someone who likes having a destination beyond choosing another song from a menu. At a gathering, however, the simpler attraction is sharing familiar music. A mixed-age group can move between songs that different people already know, giving everyone a chance to choose the next round.
The confirmed selection includes ABBA’s “Mamma Mia,” Spice Girls’ “Wannabe,” Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” and Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” Party Mode changes the rules between rounds, while Workout Mode offers another way to organise a session around movement.
Before buying, match the edition to your console:
| Console | Release position |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | Available from 13 October 2026 |
| PlayStation 5 | Available from 13 October 2026 |
| Xbox Series X|S | Available from 13 October 2026 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 edition | Scheduled for 10 November 2026 |
Nintendo also lists the original Switch version as compatible with Switch 2. That compatibility and the November release of the dedicated edition are separate details worth checking when choosing a purchase.
On PlayStation and Xbox, Ubisoft requires the Just Dance Controller app to track movements. Its launch information specifies a smartphone running iOS 14.4 or later, or Android 9 or later. Check compatibility before organising a group session; every extra player needs a supported way to participate.
Online features come with additional requirements. The platform listings specify internet access, the relevant accounts and an applicable platform subscription for online play. Nintendo lists Nintendo Switch Online support; Xbox’s listing also identifies subscription requirements. Check the store for your account region before purchasing.
Just Dance+ is a separate paid service that adds songs. Its catalogue requires an active subscription and internet access, and availability varies by country. Start by looking at the songs included with the game, then decide whether an additional catalogue would actually get used.
For a family evening or a gathering of friends, the useful question is whether the music suits the people playing. Check the tracklist, confirm the controllers and leave enough space to move. Those choices will matter more to your evening than buying extras before the first song starts.
