PEAK Comes to PS5: Getting Your Friends Up the Mountain Is the Real Challenge

Spoiler note: This preview covers the confirmed premise and gameplay. It does not reveal hidden discoveries or the ending.

The mountain is easy to point at. Getting everyone to the top is the difficult part.

In PEAK, you play a stranded nature scout whose route to rescue involves climbing the mountain at the centre of a mysterious island. You can attempt the journey alone or bring friends, but a group has more to manage than its fastest climber. Someone who reaches a ledge may need to help the next person up. A useful rope can make a dangerous stretch more manageable for everyone behind them.

Landfall describes a game built around these small acts of cooperation. Players search for food and climbing equipment while dealing with injuries that reduce their stamina. The less strength you have left, the harder the next stretch becomes.

That relationship between survival and movement gives each decision a consequence. Spending energy carelessly can leave you struggling later. Equipment becomes valuable because of the problem it solves, and helping another player becomes part of making progress.

The island’s layout changes every 24 hours. Within that period, you can attempt the same map again, giving a group an opportunity to learn from a failed climb before the next layout arrives. The Steam version also supports proximity chat, so communication forms part of the experience.

Read as a game design, this is a promising foundation for shared stories: the friend who finds a route, the person who needs a hand, and the group deciding whether it is ready to keep moving. The appeal depends partly on how much you enjoy relying on other people when a plan starts becoming difficult.

PEAK was created by Aggro Crab and Landfall. Its Windows PC edition launched on Steam on June 16, 2025. The developers have now announced a PlayStation 5 release for October 22, 2026, with crossplay allowing groups of up to four players to climb together across the supported platforms.

The PS5 announcement also says the console version includes the content updates, environments and items added since the original launch. Custom runs offer ways to adjust the challenge.

For access, the PC edition is a paid Steam game with offline single-player and online co-op. Its listed minimum requirements include a 64-bit Windows 10 system, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT graphics card. Players should consult the full specification list before purchasing.

The PS5 announcement does not specify the console price or online-subscription requirements. Those details should be checked against the PlayStation Store listing for the buyer’s account region.

For a group choosing its next game, the useful question is whether everyone enjoys solving a physical challenge together. PEAK puts that cooperation at the centre of the climb.
