A difficult group project is an inconvenient place to meet someone you might fall for. You cannot simply walk away after an argument; there is still work to finish.
That is the situation at the heart of Tele x Zikora. Zikora leaves a comfortable but lonely life in Houston for a semester at the fictional Lagos Metropolitan University. There she meets Tele, a talented engineering student who keeps his guard up. A demanding assignment brings them together, and their disagreements gradually give way to an unexpected romance.
Genoveva Umeh plays Zikora, while Mike Afolarin plays Tele. The actors previously appeared together in Far From Home, but this film gives them a different campus and a new relationship to navigate. Adenike Adebayo-Esho wrote, produced and directed the film.
The project gives the romance a useful starting point: these two have a reason to spend time together before they understand each other. From that setup, the interesting question is how their early judgments will change. Working alongside someone can reveal patience, pride and insecurity that a brief introduction never would.
Zikora’s loneliness also gives her move emotional weight. A comfortable home has not necessarily given her a sense of belonging. Tele’s guarded nature introduces a different difficulty: connection requires letting another person see something beyond the version of yourself you normally present.
The wider campus matters too. In discussing the film, Adebayo-Esho has emphasised friendship alongside romance. The story places its leads among social groups, competing ambitions and expectations about who they should become. That makes room for a familiar tension in early adulthood: choosing what you want while people around you are forming their own opinions about your life.
For viewers interested in Nigerian campus romances, the central attraction is the gradual shift from friction to understanding. The question is whether Tele and Zikora can recognise each other beyond their first impressions.
Tele x Zikora opened in Nigerian cinemas on 23 October 2026. Cinemax lists a running time of two hours. Check your local cinema for screenings; the sources linked below do not announce a streaming date.
