Possible Love Story: A Documentary Draws Two Marriages into Dangerous Intimacy

Spoiler notice: This preview discusses the official premise and trailer setup, without revealing the ending.

Agreeing to tell your story can bring someone unexpectedly close. In Possible Love, a documentary project opens a connection between two married couples whose circumstances are sharply different.

Mi-ok, played by Jeon Do-yeon, lives with her unemployed husband Ho-seok, portrayed by Sul Kyung-gu, and their young son. A funeral brings them into contact with documentary filmmaker Ye-ji, played by Cho Yeo-jeong, and her husband Sang-woo, portrayed by Zo In-sung.

Ye-ji is documenting laid-off workers. Her interest draws the couples together, but the relationship soon reaches beyond filming. Mi-ok becomes close to Ye-ji while experiencing an uneasy attraction to Sang-woo. Their growing intimacy unsettles the boundaries between the two households.

Netflix’s final trailer adds another layer to the arrangement. Mi-ok becomes emotional in front of the camera, while references to Ho-seok’s past suggest something he struggles to confront. Ye-ji later proposes a holiday involving both couples, bringing their connection into another shared space.

The trailer also highlights the difference in their circumstances. Ye-ji and Sang-woo have an affluent life; Mi-ok and Ho-seok carry the strain of his unemployment. That imbalance gives their friendship an uncomfortable question: can people be equally open with one another when they occupy such different positions?

The documentary arrangement makes that question especially interesting. One person chooses what to reveal; another controls the camera. In this premise, sympathy, curiosity and desire can become difficult to separate. A conversation intended to explain a marriage may also change how the people inside it understand themselves.

Director Lee Chang-dong returns with his first film since Burning in 2018. Possible Love is a fictional relationship drama whose story involves a documentary project.

Possible Love arrives globally on Netflix on 6 November 2026.
